In the Photobook 'Left behind' the photographer Morten Gaustad looks at a world we have left behind. The pictures center on old abandoned houses where the windows are empty, the doors are closed and no one is waiting inside on the other side. The function of the houses as a home for a family has disappeared, and a purely aesthetic function remains. The houses disintegrate and the materials return to nature. The photographer turns his gaze to something we have turned our gaze away from and thus forces the observer to relate to something we as a society have rejected and do not want, something that has had a heyday but no longer has any function. Just like the photographer himself, who once had a function in society as an associate professor, but now that he has lost his ability to work, is no longer a value to society and therefore has had to endure being left behind. The pictures in the book are taken on Langeland
