This exhibition is inspired by the recent edition of of the so-called "Ambraser Trinkbücher" [Ambras drinking books], which were carried out from 1567 until 1620. They inclide handwritten entries of Archduke Ferdinand's II guests, whom he welcomed to Schloss Ambras with a special ritual: upon their visit, men and women alike received a large goblet of wine which they were required to empty in one draw. After passing the drinking test, they were admitted to the sanctuary of Bacchus, the god of wine, and finally contributed an epigram to the drinking book.
