'Travelling the World. Art from Germany' shows 400 artworks from the ifa's travelling exhibitions of the past six decades. The exhibitions presented art from Germany on every continent. The different positions of the nearly 100 artists cast a new look at art history. Drawing on the ifa's extensive holdings of contemporary art, the curators Matthias Flügge and Matthias Winzen compiled a survey of the most important artistic developments in Germany since 1949. Reviewing the holdings, the curators saw the opportunity of presenting for the first time an exhibition of art from Germany that breaks with the artistically unproductive FRG GDR schema. Thus the exhibition is conceived not along the lines of political history but rather of the actual development of art. Themes and techniques emerged in East Berlin and Cologne, in Annaberg and Oberkassel, in Dresden and Munich out of the artistic work-processes themselves. They reveal numerous parallels and subterranean relationships. On display are works from Gerhard Altenbourg, Dieter Appelt, Willi Baumeister, Thomas Bayrle, Bernd und Hilla Becher, Sibylle Bergemann, Joseph Beuys, Anna und Bernhard Blume, Manfred Butzmann, Chargesheimer, Carlfriedrich Claus, Hartwig Ebersbach, Hans-Peter Feldmann, Arno Fischer, Günther Förg, Katharina Fritsch, Günter Fruhtrunk, Else (Twin) Gabriel, Rupprecht Geiger, André Gelpke, Isa Genzken, Jochen Gerz, Hermann Glöckner, Karl Otto Götz, Gotthard Graubner, Andreas Gursky, Georg Herold, Katharina Hinsberg, Hannah Höch, Matthias Hoch, Candida Höfer, Martin Honert, Rebecca Horn, Magdalena Jetelová, Dieter Kiessling, Jürgen Klauke, Barbara Klemm, Fritz Klemm, Imi Knoebel, Herlinde Koelbl, Wilmar Koenig, Arthur Køpcke, Norbert Kricke, Mark Lammert, Markus Lüpertz, Adolf Luther, Heinz Mack, Ewald Mataré, Wolfgang Mattheuer, Olaf Metzel, Michael Morgner, Reinhard Mucha, Marcel Odenbach, Nam June Paik, Helga Paris, A.
