Ninth ed. of the "Ernestine" or "Weimar" Bible; first published in 1641. The format of the Bible was originally planned by Sigismund Evenius and Christoph Brunchorst at the request of Duke Ernst of Weimar, who was much impresses with Eveniu's notion that the Bible should be mad undertandable to all by adding clarifying words and phrases to the text. Using Luther's 1545 ed. of the Bible. as a basis, the Duke himself performed some general editorial preparation of the text and notes, with extensive assistance forme the theological facutly of the University of Jena.
