Edition Notes

An abstract of the diary of the Brotherhood, which had been kept by Brother Lamech, and continued and edited by Brother Jaebez (Latin Agrippa) i.e., Johann Peter Miller. Brother Lamech has been identified as Jacob Gass by Seidensticker but according to J.F. Sachse in his German sectarians of Pennsylvania, his identity is still unknown.

Running title: Lebens-Beschreibung des Stiffters des geistl. Ordens der Einsamen in Ephrata.

Vorrede signed: Bruder Agrippa. Im Lager Ephrata den 14ten April 1786.

Signatures: pi1 [dagger]² A-2H⁴ 2I².

Library has variant A with Ephrata seal mounted on title page above imprint. Flyleaves inscribed with name of David Good, front end-sheet bears the name of Rev. George H. Trabert (Lutheran pastor), some foxing and some damp staining, paper covered cardboard boards, boards show wear, leather spine, leather spine professionally restored by Anthony Haverstick, bookbinder, Lancaster, Pa. Book is contained in a cloth covered modern custom-made clamshell.
