A record of the festival and tournament held in Kassel in August 1596 in honor of the baptism of Elizabeth of Hessen-Kassel.

"Erster part der achten inuention von America", p. 42-46, includes a history of the voyages to America with sections on cannibals, Brazil, Mexican gods, and "naked" Virginians.

Illustrations include depictions of American Indians playing instruments, and an Amazon.

Text primarily in German with prefatory and other material in Latin.

Text and illustrations by Wilhelm Dilich.

Title page printed within fully engraved border.

Some double and double folded plates appear on versos and rectos of numbered pages.

Signatures: most gatherings consist of two leaves and are signed [dagger]

Errors in paging: p. 35 misnumbered 31.

Errata slip pasted following text on p. 81.
