Charles Houël, the sieur de Petit-Pré, served as the governor of Guadeloupe from 1643-1664. In this document, he sets out the facts of the case of the legal battle for the control of Guadeloupe between himself beginning with the establishment of the French West India colonies in 1626, up to the revocation of the French West India Company, as he sets out to maintain his possessions on the island.
