Edition Notes
A made-up set of prints composed mostly of complete series of allegorical illustrations: the four continents; the months of the year; the seasons; the elements; times of day; times of life; gold, silver, iron and bronze ages; the Three Fates and the Three Graces (Greek mythology); the disappointment of joy and of yearning. All of these feature human figures, mostly women. These suites are followed by two genre scenes. The first and last plates in the set are floral still lifes, the first by Monnoyer and the last by Schenk.
Main title from spine; subtitle composed by cataloger. This "Sammelband" includes no title page or letterpress.
Captions on plates [1], [40], [44] and [45] signed: Lud[olph] Smids, M.D. Captions on Schenk's illustrations of the times of day signed: I. Nord [i.e. J. Nord].
LC copy in contemporary full sprinkled leather binding with spine label, gold tooling and raised bands on spine, marbled endpapers, traces of gilt on edges.
Ms. captions in ink at bottom of each plate are rhyming couplets in Dutch, French and/or German.
