An edition of Nuestra patria (1923)

Nuestra patria

lectura para niños

Dr. Matias Duque was a Colonel in the Cuban Army fighting against the Spainish in the War of Independence. This book was written after Cuba wins independence, and tells the story of that fight from Dr. Duque's perspective. It is written in a question and answer style between a son and his father. The son asks questions starting with what does "Patria" mean, and he is led through the simple, yet profound answers of what makes the Cuban Patria wonderful. The book lists Cuban heroes, starting from Simon Bolivar, to Jose Marti, and includes a section on women patriots. There are songs, flags, and pictures of the beautiful Cuban countryside. This is a wonderful and complete capture of Cuban History both cultural and political from 1850 through to 1920. It is written in Spanish.
