The copper engravings were done by the foremost Dutch artists of the time, i.e. Baptist, Mulder, Van der Gouwen, De Blois, and others. The engravings were after paintings of Dutch masters such as Luyken, Elliger, Goeree, Picart, Tiedeman, Hoet, and Van der Plaes. Jan Luyken created 28 original plates as both painter and engraver.
