Edition Notes
Added engraved t.p.: Oost en Westindische voyagien : Met de beschrijvingen van Indien. Eerste deel. Amsterdam, by Joost Hartgerts, inde Gasthuys-steech by 't Stadt huys, 1648.
This collection includes 13 voyages, not 16 as listed on the t.p., each issued with separate title and pagination, of the voyages of the Dutch East India Company; all, except nos. 10 and 11, reprinted from Isaac Commelin's Begin ende voortgangh, first published 1644 (?). This first item, of the total of 14 in the collection, does not include any of the voyages; it is a brief history of the founding of the Company and a Register for the binder, signed by Joost Hartgerts, the publisher.
The t.p. has a woodcut vignette of two ships under sail which is repeated on the title of every work except voyages 10,12, and 13; the engraved added t.p. has metaphorical figures displaying the riches of the Orient.
