The Zürcher Schilling was written as an illustrated draft version, on paper, of v. 3 of Schilling's Berner Stadtchronik. It was submitted to the Stadtrat of Bern for criticism and was heavily censored by that body before being copied onto parchment for incorporation into the Stadtchronik in 1483. The original, uncensored paper ms. was kept by Schilling, who continued the chronicle to the year 1484. The ms. was purchased by the city of Zurich from his widow.
"In einer einmaligen limitierten Verkaufsauflage von 980 arabisch numerierten Exemplaren erschienen. Zudem wurden 80 römisch numerierte Exemplare als unverkäufliche Belege für die Mitglieder der Patronats- und Editionskommission, für die Autoren, sonstige Mitarbeiter und für das Archiv des Verlags hergestellt."
A commentary volume, issued later in the same year but included in the price of this facsimile, has title: Die Grosse Burgunder Chronik des Diebold Schilling von Bern, "Zürcher Schilling" : Kommentar ... / herausgegeben von Alfred A. Schmid.
The booklet, with special title "Verzeichnis der Abbildungen," contains explanations of the ill. It comprises the text, without the ill., found on p. 55-[91] of the commentary volume.
