There are two known editions of this work in the same year distinguished not only by setting of type but by the following: in one edition the "Table des Chapitres" has the page numbers preceded either by "p.", "pag.", or "page"; on p. 158, 1st count, Chapter XI is wrongly headed "Chapitre II."; in the other edition in the "Table des Chapitres" page numbers, except for the first item, are not preceded by "p.", "pag.", or "page"; Chapter XI is headed "Chap. VIII." There are also several variants within each edition; cf. McCoy, J.C. Jesuit relations, 31-37.

John Carter Brown Library copy 1 is what McCoy describes as "First Edition" in which the "Table des Chapitres" has the page numbers preceded either by "p.", "pag.", or "page" and on p. 158, 1st count, Chapter XI is wrongly headed "Chapitre II". This copy contains the characteristics of McCoy's "Variant Five" in which gatherings A-F and a-d have been reprinted from another setting of type (Cf. McCoy, p. 88-89). Leaf ã2 has been cancelled by cutting it off, and the "Privilege" and new "Permission" are printed on leaf [ℓ8] at the end of the book. In this copy, however, leaf ℓℓ8] has been misbound after the title page.

John Carter Brown Library copy 2 is also McCoy's "First Edition, Variant Five" (see above). In this copy, leaf ã3 is lacking (available in copy 1), and leaf [ã4] is misbound between leaves A1 and A2.
