Lapi is sometimes considered to have merely translated León Pinelo's Vida del ilustrissimo i reverendissimo D. Toribio Mogrovejo. Cf. Medina, Dicc. de anón. y seud. However a comparison of the two texts suggests that Lapi's work is independent of León Pinelo's biography.
