Edition Notes

Caption title.

Place of publication may be either Cap-Français, Haiti or Martinique.

While "Au Cap" in title transcription would normally refer to Cap-Français, Haiti, in an imprint this early it could also refer to several settlements in the French West Indies. Two other early Martinique imprints, the first an address by Estaing is housed in the Bibliothèque Scholcher dated May 28, 1764, and other housed at the Beinecke Library at Yale is a form printed in Martinique in 1759. Within this pamphlet there is no direct mention of any place in Martinique, though Saint-Domingue is mentioned frequently.

A pamphlet by Charles Henri, comte d'Estaing, freshly appointed governor-general of Saint-Domingue and the Windward Islands from 1764-1766, containing his welcome address to the colony.
