Born in British India, at Calcutta, 1933, in the historical juncture when the world was getting ready for the Second World War under Hitler and the country was readying itself for Independence under Mahatma Gandhi, the time was ripe for the precocious child to gain nourishment from history so as grow up with the vigorous consciousness of a rebel, a poet, a thinker, a scientist, an academician, a philosopher, and finally a trusted witness of Time that had seen transformations and metamorphosis of History of British India to Independent India under the Nehru -Gandhis and all subsequent regimes.
This large book of 788 pages is packed with events that not only impinge upon the author's personal life as happens in autobiographies, but on the society on such grand scale that the book is claimed taken as a masterpiece of literature that reads like an epic.
