Edition Notes
Translation, by Louis Conart, of: La vida, que hizo el siervo de Dios Gregorio Lopez, first printed Mexico City, 1613.
Dedication, p. [3-6], 1st count, is signed by the translator, Louis Conart, Jesuit.
Gregorio López was a wandering hermit, born in Spain, who left for the New World in 1562. The author and the hermit both lived near the village of Santa Fe. Although López never became a saint, he was accorded the title “venerable”, a distinction rarely given by the church to figures from the Spanish colonies.
