Edition Notes
Translation, by Robert d'Andilly of: La vida, que el siervo de Dios Gregorio Lopez, printed in Madrid, 1642; it was first printed under title: Vida, que hizo el siervo de Dios Gregorio Lopez in Mexico City, 1613.
Gregorio López was a wandering hermit, born in Spain, who left for the New World in 1562. The author and the hermit both lived near the village of Santa Fe. Although López never became a saint, he was accorded the title “venerable”, a distinction rarely given by the church to figures from the Spanish colonies.
