Spine includes decorative device of the Boston Public Library in gilt. Front pastedown includes donor's ex libris (bookplate) of the Boston Public Library identifying copy as the gift of Joshua Bates, received on September 15, 1859. Recto of title page includes markings in pencil and embossed stamp of the Boston Public Library. Printed on antique laid papers featuring horizontal chainlines, vertical wire lines, and watermark present at center of spine-edge. Rear pastedown includes affixed label of the Boston Public Library, dated May 1884, concerning circulation regulations. Rear pastedown includes ink stamp of the Boston Public Library Bindery, dated "JUL 31 1884".
