This work presents the influence of the Fujiwara clan on the imperial family and the writing culture of the Heian period. The clan reached high position in Japan via marriages of Fujiwara women with Imperial Family members. Other methods were giving the members of the clan highest positions in the country and introduction of the sesshō and kampaku titles. It helped to exercise control over the emperor and whole Imperial Family.
Other important aspect was the influence of the Fujiwara clan on the writing culture of the Heian period. Many distinguished representatives in the field of art came from this clan, including caligraphy masters. Their achievements became role models for centuries and are taught even in nowadays Japan. The clan also has great achievement in the filed of women literature. They gave to the world two great female writers, which became precursors of that kind of literature.
