Memoir of Mallen's years as an editor of the New York Graphic, a scandal-sheet of the early 20th century. Best remembered today for its famous "composographs." We call it Photoshop today. Great photo section on some of these fascinating fake photos.
He covers other popular innovations in the paper, including its Lonely Hearts column. Other topics: Valentino's death and the truth behind the "woman in black" who appeared at the funeral. Addresses the paper's interesting owner Bernarr McFadden, a character if ever there was one.
Per the New York Times, Mallen ended up as publisher of a legal newspaper in Westchester and died in 1960.
