The engraved portrait of Schwenter, which appears in both t.I and t.II, is signed by Lucas Kilian (1579-1637). The engraved title pages were executed by Peter Iselberg (ca. 1568-1630) after original artwork by Johann Hauer (1586-1660).

The place of publication and name of publisher are taken from the title page of t.I; the imprint date from the colophon of t.IV.

The first three parts, previously issued separately, were originally published together in 1618 under the title: Geometriae practicae novae. All four parts were issued together for the first time in this 1627 edition. Cf. NUC pre-1956

Each tractatus has an engraved, pictorial title page within an ornamented architectural border, along with separate pagination and signature registers.

The woodcut illustrations within the four parts of this work show geometrical concepts and proofs, both in the abstract and as applied to surveying, the latter illustrating various measuring tools and techniques superimposed onto maps and landscapes.

T.IV consists of a German translation of Curzio Casati's Geometricum problema, originally published in Latin in 1602.

Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) copy bound in early tacketed vellum with cover extensions and a red leather label at the head of its spine. All text block edges are stained red. The upper and lower covers contain a gilt super ex-libris showing the arms of both the Palatinate Zweibru cken and the house of Sulzbach, which together formed the royal arms used by Karl Theodor, Elector of Bavaria, and his wife, Marie Elisabeth Auguste von Sulzbach.

Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) copy contains three separate inscriptions, in early iron gall ink. The first, appearing at the head of the front flyleaf recto, is signed "Jacobus Marig Beckh, Ulmensis" [of Ulm]. Beckh recorded the cost of each part of this work, plus binding, and dated the inscription 1638. He also left several annotations within the text, the most prominent of which is signed with his initials and appears on page 51 of tractatus I. A second, but illegible signature appears in the lower right corner of the front flyleaf recto. The verso of the front flyleaf contains a third mark of ownership: an ex-libris inscription of Mies Cagnon, "architectus et ingenarus" [architect and engineer], dated 1674.
