The first edition of this work was published in Florence in 1561 and contained sixteen books only; the last four were not printed until 1564. The present copy is a reissue of the first edition (BM STC Italian, 1465-1600).

The John Adams Library copy is bound with all twenty books: libros 1-16 cover the years 1490-1526; libros 17-20 cover the years 1526-1532. The last four books have separate pagination.
