Edition Notes

Attributed to Jean-François André by Barbier.

Quérard's Supercheries littéraires, 2. éd., v. 1, col. 144, enters the above as v. 1 of André's Histoire des flibustiers, Paris, 1812-13.

Roc-de-la-Roche, alias Gerrit Gerritsen, also known as the Brazilian or Roche Brasiliano, was a Dutch buccaneer whose exact identity is unknown. He seems to have been born near Groningen and arrived in Brazil in 1654. He sailed around Mexico and the West Indies and was often seen fighting with the English against the Spanish. His death date is unknown and he disappeared at the height of his fame, though some historians think that he dies, penniless, of some maladie, in Port Royal, Jamaica.
