Spanish Arabian Horse Families: 1898-1978, Vol. 1 (Hardcover)

For over a quarter of a century, Joanna Maxwell's Spanish Arabian Horse Families 1898-1978, (Vol. I), has been regarded as the most complete and dependable genealogical manual for tracing the lineage of purebred Spanish Arabian stallions and mares registered in the Stud-Book Español. When it was originally published in a limited edition of 750 copies, it quickly sold out and became one of the most coveted and sought-after books of its special genre. The few second-hand copies of the 1983 edition that came on the market often commanded more than ten times their initial retail price.

This beautiful, new, revised Collector's Edition incorporates all of Maxwell's data and over 100 black & white photographs from the original work. Its 344 pages contain essential information on over 3,600 members of the so-called Spanish Family. Organized in easy-to-read male and female tables, the book articulates the history and descendants of the 11 patriarch sires and all of Spain's 36 foundation taproot dams. An updated corrigendum to the first edition which was approved by the author, is also included.

The original text has been amplified and embellished with 48 rare and/or historic photographs (33 in color) of many of the near legendary stallions (Malvito, Zancudo, Congo, Tabal, Maquillo, etc.) and mares (Barakat, Arilla, Agata III, etc.) that are found in the pedigrees of today's most illustrious Arabian horses. In addition, photographs of several exceptionally good contemporary stallions such as Gabiro, Izabal and Raffal, have been incorporated into the beautiful new work.
