Les femmes bamiléké prirent part activement à la lutte dans les deux camps. Aux côtés des insurgés, elles participèrent aux combats mais surtout elles servirent comme cuisinières, ménagères, espionnes, spécialistes de la divination. Dans le camp de l'administration, elles servirent essentiellement comme espionnes, agents de renseignements, propagandistes du ralliement.
