This emblem book first appeared in folio, with the Latin & German verses of Philipp Jakob Crophius, Sr., appended to each plate; this second edition, in oblong quarto, was issued with 30 plates of the original 52 & without the appended verses; however, only part one of the first edition, with 20 plates, seems to have survived, in only one copy; further plates are known only from this second edition, which also seems to have survived in only two further copies.
Each plate is a circular engraved emblem; some have Latin and German motto on verso, with the numbering of the original ed.
