Edition Notes

The first part of the present volume is printed from a ms. book, in French and Spanish, which belonged to Emperor Maximilian, various French portions being in the handwriting of M. Fe lix Eloin. It consists of short biographical notes and comments upon prominent Mexicans, arranged in alphabetical order; the French passages are here translated into Spanish. The original volume, as well as the "Biografia de Monsen or Labastida" by Maury, which is here appended, is preserved in the office of the Ministerio de relaciones exteriores. cf. Introduccion, dated 1867 (p. [vii]-ix).
