520 $aThe collection consists of a portion of the materials generated by a joint field project undertaken by Alan Lomax, head of the Archive of American Folksong at the Library of Congress, and Fisk University faculty members including Charles S. Johnson, John Wesley Work, and Lewis Wade Jones in 1941 and 1942. The collection includes correspondence related to the planning of the project. Field recordings were made of secular and religious music, sermons, childrens' games, jokes, folktales, interviews, and dances documenting the folk culture of an African American community in Coahoma County, Mississippi.
