545 $aOn July 6, 1934, French-American millionaire Charles Eugene Bedaux led a motor expedition to explore the the northwest region of British Columbia. This "Champagn Expedition" was undertaken in 5 Citroen half-track vehicles and cost $250,000. Due to logistical and environmental difficulties the expedition was abandoned in late October. Cowboy Bob White was part of freight party which carried gasoline and other supplies ahead of the main group of the expedition. White later helped Bedaux in his attempts to develop a ranch in the heart of northern B.C.
545 $aThe original Bannock and Beans was produced in 1938 by the Piapot History Group, a local history society in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, where White lived after he left the ranch in Cypress Hills. The Group reproduced the book from White's handwritten manuscript, printing about 200 copies.--Foreword.
