520 $aThe textual world of Hosea 4-14 is filled with exciting metaphors. This study represents a new exegetical approach, informed by modern metaphor theory. By means of a thorough contextual and intertextual analysis, the unique perspective offered by each metaphor and simile in the text is elucidated. In addition, attempts are made to trace the influence of underlying models. For the first time, the oracular discourse found in the latter part of the book of Hosea is interpreted as a coherent literary composition. A number of themes are identified. These themes are shown to create continuity, as well as dynamics, within the discourse. The concluding part of this study discusses various aspects of the textual world of Hosea 4-14.
