520 $aPresents the results of 100 interviews with survivors of the Holocaust and of Nazi and Stalinist political persecution in the DDR, comparing their ways of remembering. Parts 1 and 2 (p. 33-151) focus on the experiences of Jews in Germany and in Eastern Europe during the Holocaust. The survivors recall episodes from their suffering in the ghettos and concentration camps. Some of them express their need to forget, some relate their suffering after the liberation, and others deal with the meaning of remembering and transmitting their experiences to other people.
