Douglas crowded a century of achievement. -- The Little Giant holds high place, in the hearts of a grateful people who remember, the brilliant Douglas, was orator, statesman, politician, but through it all and over it was a sterling patriot. -- Hon. Joseph Glover, mayor of Ottawa at time of the Lincoln-Douglas Debate. -- Some reminiscences, by old timers who were here fifty years ago. -- Lincoln, the man / by John F. Nash. -- Old time stories of the old day, what those who were here then have to say, story of the barbecue, seems to have many versions in the memories of the old residents of this section. -- Illini chapter of the D.A.R., prominent in marking spot of debate, found the big boulder, and caused its removal to the spot where it was unveiled today, have done noble work. -- Is artistic work by local artist, a fine bust of the martyred president, by Miss Vera Snook, Ottawa young lady, student in the art department at Champaign models a fine bust. -- Old timers tell, of things they saw here on August 21, 1858. -- They were all here fifty years ago, many living people heard original debate, many have come today, to attend the celebration of the historic event which they attended half a century ago. -- Was an ox roasted or was no ox roasted, on the day of the original debate when held here, was there a barbecue?
