500 $aWilliam Lloyd Garrison introduces the bearer of this letter, Mr. E. Kyllman, who just arrived from England and wishes to emigrate to the United States and engage in the cultivation of cotton. An article that William Lloyd Garrison wrote for the Independent about the international boat race is mentioned. In the article, Garrison objected to the "foolish rivalries which are getting to be nuisances, in matters of boating, walking, running, leaping, horse-racing, & c.; and not with any wish to undervalue Harvard." Mrs. Garrison had another fainting spell.
