500 $aWilliam Lloyd Garrison gives the names and addresses of people to whom the Independent is to be sent. Garrison wrote a article about Charles Sumner that was printed in the Independent. Since then, Garrison had an interview with Sumner and also received two notes from him. Garrison responds to comments made by Sumner. Garrison mentions that: a complimentary concert to Mr. Gilmore had a big attendance; the Laurel Festival on the Merrimac River is planned despite the rain; and Captain McLeod of the Confederate Army gave the valedictory address at the commencement exercises in a Unitarian Church in Cambridge.
