500 $aIn this letter, William Lloyd Garrison dwells on Henry Clarke Wright's illness and the water cure. Garrison wants him to return home. The New England Non-Resistance Society has declined since Wright left. Wright's letter from Graeffenburg, Austria, which was published in the Liberator, has roused interest. The motto of the American Anti-Slavery Society is "no union with slaveholders." Gerrit Smith is electioneering for James Gillespie Birney. George Bradburn has defected to the Liberty Party. Garrison comments on the presidential campaign of James Knox Polk versus Henry Clay. Garrison criticizes Joshua Leavitt. John Greenleaf Whittier is editing the Liberty party journal. The National Anti-Slavery Standard has become radical and spirited in the hands of Edmund Quincy, Mrs. Maria Weston Chapman, and Sydney Howard Gay. Nathaniel Peabody Rogers is hostile to every organization. There is a controversy over the ownership and management of the Herald of Freedom. John A. Collins is at the Skaneateles Community. Mrs. Sarah Thurber Benson died and was buried in Providence.
