During printing, a feud had arisen between the new pope Julius II and the Duke of Ferrara. Neither Bembo nor Aldus wishing to present a book paying homage to the wife of an enemy of the Pope, the dedication was suppressed in the remaining copies and in later editions, see EDIT 16.
