Une jeune Française installée à New York décide de rentrer en France car sa vie là-bas est un échec. L'avant-veille de son départ elle rencontre un homme dont elle tombe amoureuse. A cause de lui, elle décide de ne pas prendre l'avion. Celui-ci s'écrase en mer. Mais une femme policier lui annonce qu'elle aurait dû mourir et qu'elle mourra. Elle joue alors au chat et à la souris avec la mort.
