Edition Notes

The first issue of the present ed. was dated 1559; see Mortimer.

T.p. has architectural scrollwork border with a representation of Diana at the top, and the crescents and interlaced monograms of Henri II and Diane de Poitiers. It is attributed by Baudrier to Pierre Eskrich; see Mortimer. The ten leaves of plates include four folded, double-page ill. The folded map on the verso of d1 (paged "25" on the recto) is a bird's-eye view of the city. In-text ill., some full page. Ill. and t.p. border have been associated with Hugues Sambin, but there is no evidence for his connection with Lyons printers before 1572; see Mortimer. Headpieces, ornamented initials.
