"Though all novels are composed of words, Rocha's work, winner of the 1992 Prêmio Osman Lins de Literatura, is words. Sofia, the female protagonist, is the mythical being and the magnet that forms the thoughts and images conveyed by the narrator into words. Significant people and signifiers are erected around an allegory, Sofia, whose name, as the critic Mário Hélio states in his essay included in the volume, is based on the Hebrew roots ein-sof, meaning infinite.
