The opportunity to share with colleagues who have come from distant lands brings us great delight; and at the same time, knowing that our forebears were members of that Hispanic world—so vast in scope and so splendid in character—invites us to think beyond our present circumstances, drawing from that past everything that unites, identifies, and distinguishes us, so that we may face the current process of globalization and standardization without losing our own identity.”
