Edition Notes
Engraved throughout; consists of eight samples of animals executed in command of hand style.
The first sample is unnumbered and bears the publisher's imprint "Christoph Weigel Iun: exc:" and an inventory number "392," probably corresponding to a printed catalogue issued by the Weigel firm. The subsequent samples are numbered 2-8.
Bonacini, C. Arte scrittorie, 2032.
Becker, D.P. Practice of letters, 164.
Philip Hofer Collection.
Bound following J.C. Weigel's eight-sample Teutsches Zug-Alphabet (ca. 1705), which was clearly issued separately, as evidenced by the independent stab-stitching of each item.
Marbled paper wrappers; in loden cloth case, 25 x 39 cm.
