At the restoration, with the charters of which period this volume commences, the use of the vernacular, which had been introduced by Oliver Cromwell as the language of crown charter was discontinued; and the use of Latin was resumed. The abstracts, however, of which this volume consists have been made in English. cf. note on verse of t.p.
