Enaiat a dix ans lorsque sa mère l’oblige à fuir leur petit village de Nava, dans la vallée de Ghazni, en Afghanistan. Elle l’abandonne de l’autre côté de la frontière, au Pakistan, pour le protéger car Enaiat appartient à l’ethnie des Hazaras, persécutée par les Pachtounes et les talibans. Pour lui débute alors un périple de cinq années jusqu’en Italie en passant par l’Iran, la Turquie et la Grèce
