On A2 a large pictorial head-piece depicting an allegorical portrait of Queen Mary of Modena, consort of James II., and a historiated initial, engraved by Arnold van Westerhout after Giovanni Battista Lenardi.

Illustrations comprise two unnumbered plates, including one folded, and fourteen plates numbered 1-8 and 10-15: a frontispiece depicting James II. kneeling down in front of Innocent XI.; two plates depicting papal and English royal coats of arms with allegorical figures; six plates depicting the lateral, front, and rear views of Earl of Castlemaine's ornately carved carriage, a work by Andrea Cornely; the folded plate (impression: 115 x 26 cm.) unfolds to display a long table richly decorated with tableware, elaborately folded napkins and sculptural table decorations made of sugarpaste (cf. p. 61), and six plates depicting the individual sugar sculptures.

Illustrated with engravings by Arnold van Westerhout, after Giovanni Battista Lenardi, Philippus Michael Camers, Ciro Ferri and Andrea Cornely.

The text describes the itinerary of the journey of the Earl of Castlemaine from London to Rome; decorations of the Palazzo Pamphilij in Rome, the papal and the royal coats of arms; the carriage, and the banquet: the feast, the choreographic performances and details of table setting and decoration.

Includes an occasional poem in Greek and Latin, with Italian translation, p. 89-90.
