Grâce au travail de Gaston Dolbeau (1897-1976), artiste peintre et folkloriste, près de 500 pièces (chansons, chants brefs pour la danse, formulettes enfantines, sonneries, carillons...) ont pu être recueillies dans la région vendéenne. Le corpus, livré en entier dans cet ouvrage et dans le CD qui l'accompagne, tient à servir la mémoire collective de la Vendée et l'ethnomusicologie francophone.
