An edition of Whirlpool of Shadows (1992)

Whirlpool of Shadows

A skilful and entrancing narrative, a deft manipulation of fantasy, Whirlpool of Shadows is the story of Nasiruddin Haider, the Nawab of Awadh and his consort, a beautiful young Englishwoman. Surprises, intrigues, suspense all through.
This novel was partly inspired by the life of King Nasiruddin Haider who ruled the British Indian state of Awadh from 1827-37. But the situations developed in the book are a work of fiction. This book was first published (hardcover) by Jonathan Cape Ltd. in 1992 and then by Rupa & Co. in India in 2005. French title: Tourbillon d'Ombres (Editions Ramsay).
The author, Vijay Singh, is a well-known Indian writer, film-maker and screenplay writer living in Paris, France. Some of his other works are the books Jaya Ganga, In Search of the River Goddess (also published in French) The River Goddess (also published in French, Dutch and German) and La Nuit Poignardée (in French), and the films One Dollar Curry and Jaya Ganga (Jaya, Fille du Gange).
