L'oeuvre narrative de Silvina Ocampo (Buenos Aires, 1903-1993) est souvent associée à la longue tradition du récit fantastique du Rio de la Plata, au même titre que celles de Quiroga, Borges, Bioy Casares, Cortazar... L'originalité de l'écriture de Silvina Ocampo, tient en grande partie à son art de mêler des motifs aptes à provoquer cette frayeur universelle et primaire dont parle Lovecraft, avec des éléments de la plus grande banalité, du plus grand prosaïsme et, aussi, de la plus grande "argentinité".
