Edition Notes

Another edition (pirated) was issued in the same year in Frankfurt, Germany, "in Paltheniano".

Leaves printed on both sides.

Publisher's device on t.p., with motto: Vera hinc religio.

Head-pieces; initials.

Two unnumbered leaves, presenting a diagram of the Pleiades constellation, are inserted between leaf 16 and leaf 17.

There are 5 copper-engravings showing the lunar surface and phases (1 on leaf 8 recto; 1on leaf 9 verso; 1 on leaf 10 recto; and 2 on leaf 10 verso); three woodcut text diagrams (on leaf 7 recto; leaf 12 verso; and leaf 13 verso); and three woodcut star maps (on leaf [16a] verso; on leaf [16b] recto; and on leaf [16b] verso).

Signatures: A-C⁴ D⁶ E-G⁴.

Dibner Library. Heralds of science (1980 ed.), 7

Also available online.

Elecresource

SCDIRB copy 39088015628597 is imperfect: the diagram of the stars in the Pleiades constellation (leaf [16a] verso) has been closely trimmed, cutting off at least one of the stars. The title leaf has been repaired at the bottom, not affecting the text.

SCDIRB copy has a printed cancel slip, correcting "Cosmica" to "Medicea", pasted in the heading on leaf B1 recto.

SCDIRB copy has bookplates: 1. Ex libris Herbert McLean Evans; 2. Burndy Library ..., gift of Bern Dibner.

SCDIRB copy has a contemporary full vellum binding over thin paper boards; title inked on spine (appears to have been added much later); housed in a modern linen-covered box with printed brown paper spine label.
