From a manuscript in 2 parts, written about 1581, and preserved in the Real academia de la historia, Madrid. The present volume includes only the first part, of which the original manuscript has title: Primera parte de la recopitacion historial resolutoria de Sancta Marta y Nuebo Reyno de Granada de las Indias ... con la qual se trata del primer descubrimiento de Sancta Marta y Nuebo Reyno y lo en el sucedido hasta el año del sesenta y ocho ... cf. Marcellino, da Civezza. Saggio di bibl. ... sanfrancescana, 1879, p. 5-8.
The second part of the work was first published, Caracas, 1913-15, in 2 vols., by the Academia nacional de la historia, Caracas, with title: Historia de Venezuela.
